Some of you may remember the heyday of the Austin chess scene in the 1980s and 1990s. We had a strong, active club that offered weekly rated games at standard tournament time controls and hosted major Texas tournaments including the State Championship, the Southwest Open, the Texas Team Championship and the Texas Open.
The new Austin Chess Club officially opened on January 22, 2006 at 6:00 pm. We are averaging 34 players per event, including 42 players in our first long time control event, the March Standard Swiss. A great start, which we plan to build on in the coming months.
Players of all ages and skill levels are welcome (children under age 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).
